Music Sunday Celebrations – Sunday, 18 June 2017
Festival of Great Hymns 1pm – 3.15pm
Come and be part of the great tradition of massed hymn singing remembered from times past. Accompanied by the great St John’s Cathedral organ played by Cathedral Organist Andrej Kouznetsov, join conductor Graeme Morton as we sing great old hymns and some excellent hymns of more recent origin. The pre-festival run through starts at 1pm and the Festival itself gets under way at 2pm. Admission is free and an offering will be taken. Please bring all your friends to this event so we can all raise the St John’s roof.
If you want more of the hymn singing experience, then come and join the combined cathedral singers who will rehearse on Friday evening (details below) in order to perform some special hymn anthems in the Festival. A highlight for this group is the premiere of a new hymn anthem by our own brilliant Robert Boughen, especially commissioned for the occasion.
Evensong for Music Sunday
Come and join the singers from St John’s
and St Stephen’s cathedrals to sing in the choir for the FGH and then stay to sing a special Music Sunday Evensong together.
