This outstanding hour of music in St Patrick’s Cathedral will be played by visiting organist Markus Karas, the present day organist at the Bonn Minster in Germany. In addition to his prodigious work as a concert organist, both with Bonn Munster (since 1989) and elsewhere throughout Europe, Markus has won international acclaim as a composer of music for choir, piano and organ. In 1992 Markus also became the regional cantor of the entire Bonn deanery and has since then regularly conducted and played at the Bonn Beethovenfest. He has also taken on the musical direction of BonnSonata, Bonn’s nationally and internationally highly acclaimed women’s chamber choir. In the splendid acoustic of St Pat’s, in addition to the music of Bruhns, Bartholdy, Cesar Franck and Messiaen, Markus will play several chorales, preludes and meditations of his own.
