A SPECIAL INVITATION TO SINGERS AND OTHER RSCM MEMBERS
ST STEPHEN’S UNITING CHURCH,
Macquarie Street, Sydney, by kind permission of the Revd Ken Day, Minister of St Stephen’s
SUNDAY, 4TH FEBRUARY, AT 1.30 PM
a simple service for those who care for God and who would follow Jesus,
A CELEBRATION OF THE 450TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EDICT OF TORDA
when for the first time in the intolerant and bloody era of the Reformations, on January 28th, 1568, a Christian ruler, King Sigismund in Transylvania, allowed people
to worship according to Roman Catholic, Calvinist, Lutheran, and Unitarian ways.
and freedom to elect their ministers, and forbade the reviling of the religion of others
and the removal of any minister on the grounds of their religious beliefs !
Not only in some violent parts of the world but in our own land and our own city,
such tolerance perhaps is still needed.
There will not be a choir at this service but with 11 hymns, and two psalms to Anglican chants, any who would like to come and strengthen the singing would be very welcome.
Mr Mark Quarmby, the Organist of St Stephen’s, will accompany the music and provide a prelude for all to listen to after the service begins !
Also,. this is an opportunity to mention that I have four new FULL MUSIC copies of
HYMNS OF GLORY SONGS OF PRAISE (2008)
the excellent 4th Church Hymnary of the Church of Scotland
published under a general name to encourage its wider use.
Its usual price is 27 pounds – but I have obtained these for 5 pounds plus postage.
Please let me know if you would like one of these great bargains.
